Data Entry Scams

Data Entry Scams

Work at Home Ripoff

Not all work-at-home opportunities are scams. Perhaps not all type-at-home opportunities are scams. But, you should know about one type of opportunity you should avoid and save your money.

There are sites offering "data entry" opportunities for those who want to work from home. The sales copy makes it seem that you will be cooperating with other companies and will be paid by them for your efforts. And, you will be given step-by-step instruction for making all the money you want.

You are often told that all you need to do is to connect to the Internet and type a few sentences. Then, you can wait for the money to roll in. And it sounds so easy you could practically do it in your sleep.

But, you probably realize that easy money like this is not realistic. In fact, it would be amazing if this were true. But, of course, it isn't true.

What these sites are offering is the opportunity to advertise for a company that pays you when you deliver a paying customer. Their opportunity is simply membership in one or more affiliate programs.

If you're not familiar with affiliate programs, here is what they are.

A person or company offers one or more products for sale. While they could advertise their product, they often let others advertise their product to attract paying customers. The company provides you with an "affiliate link" containing a code that identifies you when a potential customer clicks on your link. If the potential customer buys a product, the company will pay you a commission.

So, as a member of an affiliate program you are a commissioned salesperson. You make no money unless you deliver paying customers to the vendor.

There are a number of networks that bring together hundreds of companies or individuals with products to sell. These companies are all willing to pay you a commission for bringing them paying customers. Some of these networks include:

So, how to do your do "data entry" or "type at home" to make money?

Here are some common ways affiliates make money on the Internet. None of them are guaranteed to make money for you. Instead, you need to gain some experience and skills to do these tasks well.

Tasks to Make Money

  • Create a blog and advertise an affiliate product
  • Place classified ads in Internet classified sites
  • Place ads on search engines like Google's AdWords or Yahoo! Search Marketing
  • Purchase an email list and send emails with advertisements
  • Create your own website about a topic related to a product
  • Create a mailing list and send articles and ads to your list

So, you may be tempted to make easy money by answering an ad for home typers. But, you should know that there really is work to be done to make money.

Making money is not as easy as it's advertised.
