Bad Credit Credit Cards

Bad Credit Credit Cards

Past credit mistakes such as late payments, chargeoffs, credit turndowns or bankruptcy can remain on your credit report for a number of years. These negative items in your credit report will lower your credit score and give you "bad credit".

These negative items along with your credit score are used by credit providers to determine your worthiness for future credit. If you don't correct errors in your credit report or actively work to establish a good, on time payment history you will be seen as a bad credit risk and probably be turned down for many credit cards.

You should check your credit report for negative items that could reduce your chances of getter a credit card. Request a free annual credit report at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/

If you find inaccurate negative items, you can write to the credit bureau to challenge the items. It may take a while to get your credit report corrected, but it will be worth your time to get a better credit card at a lower interest rate.

While you have a low credit score, it is important to add as many positive items to your credit report as possible. These positive items will help raise your credit score to you can successfully apply to normal credit cards.

Until then, you should apply for secured or prepaid credit cards. These cards have a spending limit in line with a deposit you have in your bank account. Since you cannot spend more than you have in your account, you cannot go into debt further. And, you can have a better assurance of making timely payments.
