Throw Away Your Power Hogging Halogens In Support Of Energy Saving GU10 LED Light Bulbs
When my family members recently embarked on a remodel project for our den, we opted to add GU10 four inch recessed fixtures at various parts along the top to provide for focus, ambiance and task lighting.
One of the items that inspired our decision was the appearance of the fixtures themselves as well as the high intensity of the light efficiency in such a small package. These modest fixtures come in a brushed steel frame and bring a nice, modern appearance to the room. Undoubtedly though, the main convincing factor in our decision was price. The GU10 units are inexpensive when compared to greater more traditional made recessed lighting fixtures. That, not to mention the nice look of the fixtures, and the ease of mounting, sealed the deal to go with GU10 fixtures for this task. They do not have to be connected to any ceiling studs since they will be self linked between the top and bottom edges of the ceiling sheetrock.
So we ordered six of these tiny light fixtures and began installing them. Once all lights were set up and the electrician had carried out his work, we were completely ready. The furnishings offered more than necessary light production to the room and as a bonus, they sat inside movable bezels which allowed the homeowner the luxury of darting the light source in a large spectrum of action for task lighting.
About 2 months after we had set up the lights, one of them went dark. Soon after attempting to take a look at the bulb for clues of failure (burnt or broken lighting element) I realized it was very difficult to see underneath the lens cover of the light, but never the less, I was helpless to imagine a bulb inability after such a short time. So I left it unsolved and forgot about it for several days, then the next time I went to switch on the den lights, I saw another light had went black shade. After doing the same cursory investigation I had done on the fixture, I decided to call the electrician out for an immediate visit to check the circuit.
Obviously, the circuit checked out fine and we were left with the truth that the excitement ended only for two months of service. At this rate, I, realized any money I spent on the decision to go with the GU10 halogen fixtures was sure to be otherwise unused in bulb replacement costs. At this point, the electrician told me of the existence of super long life, ultra efficient LED bulbs that were made as a replacement for the rapidly weakening halogen GU10's I had just encountered succumbing to an unwanted (and expensive) death.
Surprisingly I was able to find many different options of LED based GU10 replacement bulbs to accommodate my needs. It has been 8 months since I started using the LED replacement bulbs and these little wonders, and I must say, I'm quite impressed. Not only do they create clean, natural light (if I am not aware I would think it was an incandescent based light bulbs), but I can tell a big difference in the volume of heat emitted by the bulb.
I can actually feel right up to light bulb and only sense a slightly warm lens cover. In comparison, the halogen based GU10 bulbs would literally develop a scalding burn in a matter of seconds of contact.
I can in all honesty say, I'm definitely glad I asked the help of the electrician and more glad that I've found these excellent little LED light bulbs.
